Both Dean Martin and Michael Bublé did a great version of this song. I have to go with Dean: it's the familiarity in this case.
ReplyDeleteLoved your Christmas card. You have a nice voice. Merry Christmas!
A vote for Dean to start things off! Thanks for the compliment, John! ☺ Merry Christmas to you and your family.
DeleteBuble does a fine job with this song, but I've got to go with the King of Cool Dean Martin. Always liked him.
ReplyDeleteLee
Another one for the King of Cool. Thanks for voting, Lee, and Merry Christmas!
DeleteDean Martin doesn’t seem as alert as I’ve heard in the past. His distinctive warble, however, is unmistakable. Buble gets my vote (just this once) for a clearer, more stylish sound. Wonderful song for sharing holiday cheer!
ReplyDeleteDean is Dean! ☺ Thanks for coming by to vote, diedre. First one for Michael. Yes, the song really conveys the holiday mood, doesn't it? Merry Christmas!
DeleteBoth covers are great! I so appreciate Michael Buble's crooner style. It's fabulous that he keeps this vintage sound going for a newer generation. But, I prefer Dino the best. :) It was interesting when I click over here, I was listening to Silver Bells by The Miracles. Totally different style!
ReplyDeleteDino is the King of Cool, for sure! :) Thanks for voting, Cathy. I didn't know The Miracles covered Silver Bells. Must check that out. ☺

ReplyDeleteJohn is right, you DO have a nice voice.
Well, both of these 'Silver Bells' recordings were pretty good. My Brother has said that he thinks this may be his all-time favorite Christmas song. Unfortunately, he's at the gym right now, otherwise I would have gotten his input (a.k.a. a "rulin'") on this Battle.
I think I'm gonna side with Michael Steven Bublé in this match-up. His version started out a bit "weird" to my ears, but then it quickly settled into that smooth groove I like to hear in Christmas songs.
Merry Merry & Happy Happy to you and yourn, my friend.

The Christmas Canine
Thank you, Stephen! ☺ And also for giving Michael another vote. Merry Christmas to you and Judge Al! Maybe he could come by and make a ruling later on? This battle is open 24/7 until 11:59 pm on Dec. 21st.
DeleteBob Hope introduced this song in a movie I still have to see! Dean gets my vote even though I picture him behind a bar making a martini. I like M8chael Buble but his background crooners were annoying to me. I didn't Luke them at all Frohliche Weihnachten
ReplyDeleteYes, it was The Lemon Drop Kid. I think I saw it a long time ago. I'll add the video at the end of my comment. Dean's schtick was pretending to be a booze hound, but in real life, he drank very little. Thanks for your vote - Dino it is! Here's that video:

ReplyDeleteI corralled Judge Al like he was an out-of-control reindeer, and pulled a "rulin'" out of his tail.
Judge Al is rulin' for Dean Martin. Why? Because he preferred the more traditional (less stylized) approach to the song. (Al is a pretty straight-forward reindeer... when he's not out-of-control.)

Thank you, Stephen and Judge Al! ☺ The classic crooner gets another vote.
