WELCOME TO ANOTHER INSTALLMENT OF #BOTB!
It's August and the 'dog days' of summer are upon us!
Zoey at the beach |
Here's a happy-go-lucky summer ditty you'll probably recognize!
This battle features two females singers I discovered on YouTube.
HISTORY
"In the Summertime" is the debut single by British rock band Mungo Jerry, released in 1970. It reached number one in charts around the world, including seven weeks on the UK Singles Chart, two weeks at number one on the Canadian charts, and number three on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart in the US.It became one of the most successful singles of all-time, eventually selling 30 million copies. Written and composed by the band's lead singer, Ray Dorset, while working in a lab for Timex, the lyrics of the song celebrate the carefree days of summer. The track was included on the second album by the band, Electronically Tested, issued in March 1971.[Reference only. NOT eligible for voting!]

Fun song choice! I don't think anyone can out do Jerry Mungo's original but since I must pick one of these ladies which wasn't an easy decision, I'm giving my vote to SAYAKA ALESSANDRA. I preferred her presentation, which felt more laid back for that summertime vibe! ๐
ReplyDeleteFirst vote goes to Sayaka and her summertime vibe. Thanks, Cathy!
DeleteLove this song! Sarah Kuri gets my vote - what an enchanting voice!
ReplyDeleteYes, it's the quintessential summer fun song! ☺ A vote for the enchanting Sarah. Thanks, diedre!
DeleteI'm going with Sarah Kuri. She did a great job!
ReplyDelete-Mary
Thanks, Mary. Another vote for Sarah.
DeleteKind of a close one, but I like the tone and style of Sayaka's voice better. Give her my vote.
ReplyDeleteLee
Glad to know it's a close one, Lee. Those are the best kind! Another vote for Sayaka.
DeleteVOTE = SARAH KURI
ReplyDeleteThis was close. I like some aspects of Sayaka's presentation - like she did the sh-sh-sh bit, she accompanied herself live, and that little pause in the middle was cute and clever. But, I really preferred Sarah's bluesy, torchy style. It gave this song an extra dimension.
Close battles are the best (and pretty rare around here)! Bluesy trumps breezy. ☺ Another vote for Sarah. Thanks, Ed!
DeleteI found them both a little annoying, to be honest, but found Sayaka a little less so, so she gets my vote. Plus, she played the guitar.
ReplyDeleteThat's the first "lesser of two annoyances" vote. ☺ Sayaka and her guitar win out.
DeleteL9ve this song and interesting play by these 2vgals but I'm going with Sarah whose voice is amazing! She could easily do many old standards with that rich voice of her so she gets my vote.
ReplyDeleteGlad you enjoyed the contest, Birgit! ☺ A vote for Sarah and her rich voice.
DeleteA tough one... great song and both are good vocalists. I'm going with Sarah.
ReplyDeleteTough ones are the best! ☺ Thanks for voting. Another one for Sarah.
DeleteCan't listen right now- Laurie's down with something. Hopefully stopping by to write a note will keep me from forgetting to come back later...
ReplyDeleteI hope Laurie is feeling better now.
DeleteOkay, hoo boy... this is about flip a coin time. I'll go #1 for the better sound, but the vocals are about equal.
DeleteThanks for coming back to vote! ☺ Sarah gets another one.
DeleteDEBBIE D'DOGLADY ~
ReplyDeleteFirst of all... terrific song. So happy & bouncy, it's hard to imagine that anyone could screw it up.
I asked my brother which one he was rulin' for and he said, "It's a coin toss".
I said, "So if you tossed a coin, which one would win?"
He replied, "Maybe the first one, just slightly".
So, Sarah Kuri gets the Judge's coin's rulin' here.
For me, this was the furthest thing from a "coin toss". Certainly Sayaka was having fun with the song, and that's a goot thing. BUT!...
...c'mon! C'MON!!
Sometimes the Moon, and the Sun, and the Stars & Planets align and a star is born!
Sarah is a really talented vocalist. She's got a style to go along with that sexy voice. Sexy? Yes! There's a slight huskiness around the edges that is definitely a turn-on. ("Confident Heterosexual" males like me are not afraid of a little huskiness around the edges!)
The majority of women were pretty apprehensive about The League members. But there was a small number of females who really loved us, loved being around us, loved partying with us. They "got" what we were really about. And I can tell just by watching her movements and facial expressions that Sarah (if she were old enough) would have been hanging around The League. Right now, I can almost hear her asking, "Where are you guys going to be partying tomorrow night?" (As if we would ever know something like that so far in advance!)
~ Stephen T. McCarthy
Yes, there's nothing like a 'a little huskiness around the edges'. ☺ And I would have loved to hang out with your League. That's TWO votes for the sexy Sarah. Thank you Stephen and Judge Al.
DeleteI'm voting Sayaka, because she added layers and richness to the song.
ReplyDeleteGreat contest, Debbie.
Thanks for coming by to cast a vote, Robyn! ☺ Sayaka is still in the running.
