RUMBLE | #BOTB RESULTS
WELCOME BACK TO BOTB!
It’s time to announce the results of the July 15th showdown.
BATTLE OF THE BANDS (BOTB), hosted by StMcC Presents Battle of the Bands is where you listen to different recordings and vote for the one you like best. Two “Battles” per month, on the 1st and 15th. (Please note: Effective July 2017, I switched to once a month on the 15th only. This will allow me more time to share other types of material with you.) Votes will be tallied and posted the following
These covers were somewhat similar and most of you chose The Dave Clark Five. I thought D.A. Sebasstian gave it some interesting quirks and chose him, but alas, it didn’t help. Not calling this a blowout, but it sure is a lop-sided result! Oh well…
Here’s how it played out:
THE DAVE CLARK FIVE
Arlee, Birgit, Cathy, Cherdo, Chris, Eugenia, John, Mary, Paul, Roland, Sandee
Total: 11
~~~~~~~~
D.A. SEBASSTIAN
Debbie, Gilly, Mike, Mimi, Stephen
Total: 5
AND THE WINNER IS,
THE DAVE CLARK FIVE!
Here’s the winner, once again:
As a bonus, I’m including the Link Wray original from 1958:
Don’t forget to check back with the others for their BOTB results:
Debbie,
I was on the winning side this round. A few months back we finally watched Quentin Tarintino’s film, Pulp Fiction. Linky’s original was used in the movie. This is a very recognizable instrumental arrangement even though I didn’t know the name. I love how my bloggy friends such as lift me out of my mewsic ignorance to a new level.
Enjoy the rest of the summer. It’s going by very fast!
Hmmm…. I don’t know about that outcome. True, both recordings were fairly similar, but I thought the D.A. SEBASSTIAN version was definitely a bit more interesting than the very straightforward DC5 rendition. I’m thinking that “nostalgia” was a factor in this Battle.
After 6 years of BOTB, I can conclusively state that there are things like ‘Familiarity Factor’ and ‘Nostalgia Nudge’ that affect the voting results. It’s not always an even playing field.
